For agencies that send quotes as PDFs

The AI risk most insurance agents miss

Your quote.
Their AI.

Your client opens the quote you sent. Before they read a word, their PDF reader offers to explain it for them.

Short answer: the AI risk most insurance agents miss isn't AI replacing them. It's the AI their clients already use. PDF readers and e-signature tools now summarize your quote, answer coverage questions and suggest alternatives, before you hear a thing.

What insurance agents should be afraid of with AI

Not robots taking the job. These five risks are already showing up in agencies, and most of them start with tools your clients use, not tools you bought. Gallagher's 2026 survey found one in five insurance professionals say their insureds have already had losses linked to AI risk.4

  1. RISK 01

Someone else's AI explains your coverage first

Adobe Acrobat's AI Assistant summarizes PDFs and answers questions about them.1 Since January 2026, Docusign shows signers a plain-language summary and key terms before they sign.2 A summary can turn "match LPL retro date" into "no retroactive date listed."

What to do: deliver quotes somewhere your explanation comes first, written by you and grounded in the actual forms.

  2. RISK 02

Your client's questions never reach you

When the summary sits inside the PDF reader, so does the question. You lose the call where you'd have explained the sublimit, and you never learn what confused them.

What to do: put an ask button on every coverage line and route each question to the producer.

  3. RISK 03

General-purpose AI suggests they shop around

A chatbot has no stake in your relationship. Asked whether a premium is fair, it will happily suggest comparing quotes elsewhere.

What to do: show the options you shopped side by side, with your recommendation and reasoning in writing.

  4. RISK 04

Your own AI use can create E&O exposure

AI-generated information may be inaccurate and lead to coverage misrepresentations, and overreliance on AI can increase E&O exposure.3 Willis research reports professional liability carriers moved toward explicit AI warranties or exclusions between January 2025 and January 2026.4

What to do: keep a licensed producer reviewing anything AI drafts, and read your E&O policy for AI language.

  5. RISK 05

Client data ends up in tools you don't control

Pasting an application or a loss run into a public chatbot sends nonpublic client information to a vendor you have no agreement with, and leaves no record of who saw it.

What to do: use AI that works inside your own system, keeps client data there, and logs every access.

Questions agents ask about AI and their quotes

Can Adobe Acrobat or Docusign summarize my insurance quote for my client?

Yes. Adobe Acrobat's AI Assistant summarizes PDFs and answers questions about them. Since January 13, 2026, Docusign shows signers a plain-language summary of an agreement and its key terms, and lets them ask questions such as "What happens if I need to cancel?" Your client may read that summary before they read your quote.

Is an AI summary of my quote the same as the policy?

No. The policy language and the carrier's forms decide what is covered. A general-purpose summary can leave out conditions, sublimits or a retroactive date, and your client may not know the difference.

How do I stop clients from using ChatGPT or a PDF reader's AI on my quotes?

You can't block it. You can give them a better place to ask: deliver the quote in your own branded view, with an assistant that answers from the actual quote, your written recommendation next to each option, and every question routed to your producer.

Does using AI in my agency affect my E&O coverage?

It can. IA Magazine (September 2026) warns that AI-generated information may be inaccurate and lead to coverage misrepresentations, and that overreliance on AI can increase E&O exposure. Willis research reports the professional liability market shifted between January 2025 and January 2026 toward explicit AI warranties or exclusions. Read your own E&O policy and keep a licensed producer reviewing anything AI drafts.
